The Yorkshire Dales

Firs Farm Bed and Breakfast - Our Local Area

The Yorkshire Dales has some of England's most stunning and beautiful scenery. We have spectacular limestone structures, ancient abbeys and historic castles. The Dales stretch from Wharfedale in the south, through  Nidderdale (itself an area of outstanding natural beauty), to Wensleydale and Swaledale in the north. Firs Farm Bed and Breakfast is conveniently located in Wensleydale, ideal as a base for exploring by car, cycling, walking or even horseback. Other local  activities include Golf, trout fishing and shooting.

The market town of Masham (pronounced 'Massam'), nestling on the western bank of the River Ure, has a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Masham boasts two breweries, The Black Sheep and Theakstons, both offering tours.  We are spoilt for places to eat, with restaurants ranging from Michelin Star to pub grub and cafés. Masham is a lively town with a full diary of fascinating events. To view their calandar (and numerous other attractions), please click here.

Ripon, with its cathedral, is short distance away and is well known for its Races, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park - a world heritage site. Harrogate, which is home to the Flower Shows, RHS Harlow Carr and The Great Yorkshire Show, is just a 45 minutes drive away.

We are also very well sited for the Vale of York - York itself is just an hour away. Closer by is the charming town of Bedale. Visit the Bird of Prey centre at Thorp Perrow Arboretum, or take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway to Redmire calling at Leyburn on the way. Further up Wensleydale at Hawes there is the Wensleydale Creamery with Wallace and Gromit and Middleham, which is home to many race horses, an impressive castle and The Forbidden Corner.

Masham now has its own gin distillery  and visitor centre where you can go and create your own gin! There is an annual sheep fair in September and a steam rally that takes place in July.

This is just a small selection of what the area has to offer. We can also arrange spa days at the famous Swinton Country Club & Spa and we work with the Yorkshire Salmon Guide for the keen fishermen and ladies.
