Local Destinations

Perched on the banks of the river Ure, Masham is a thriving and dynamic community steeped in interesting history. Rivers, reservoirs and pastures, woodlands, ancient monuments and breathtaking moorland are right here on our doorstep. Dales and Moors National Parks, cathedral cities and sophisticated spa towns are all in easy reach too. But you won’t run out of things to do in Masham! Here’s a brief summary of things to do in town and very close by.

Masham Market Square

Masham market square is the largest in England, where markets take place on Wednesday and Saturday.  It is the centre of Masham, home to the annual  Sheep Fair in the Autumn and where the Steam Engines parade during the Steam Rally weekend

Aysgarth Falls

Aysgarth Falls are a triple flight of waterfalls, surrounded by woodland and farmland, carved out by the River Ure over an almost one-mile stretch on its descent to mid-Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales of England, near the village of Aysgarth.

Black Sheep Brewery Tours.jpg

The tour takes you on a journey from the start of Black Sheep’s story to the present day as well as giving you a full insight into how their beers are made and the unique processes they use to create the perfect pint of Black Sheep.

Fountain Abbey 1.jpg
An extensive World Heritage Site in North Yorkshire. It’s much more than just an abbey. Just around the river bend you’ll find one of England’s most spectacular Georgian water gardens, Studley Royal.

Walking and Cycling

Richard and Sarah are very keen walkers and are happy to offer any advice. We are able to help you with anything from a local stroll to a full day’s hike. Circular walks from the door range from 3 miles to 24 miles, some with pubs along the way. If you prefer, Sarah is more than happy to provide a picnic lunch if ordered the night before.

The Nidderdale Way starts and finishes in Pateley Bridge, which is just over the hill. The route of the Six Dales Trail passes through Colsterdale, and the Ripon Rowel is another local trail. As of 2017, we are on one of the routes of the Tour de Yorkshire, including the ladies’ race. There is a local map on the landing to help you plan your routes.
